Introducing Bookmark & Palette Sharing

One of the most-requested features from our users is here: sharing.

In version 1.1 of Mandelbrot Metal, you're now able to export and import your bookmarks and custom color palettes, opening up a whole new way to collaborate, back up and sync your devices, and explore fractal art together.

Save It, Share It, Revisit It

Every time you save a bookmark in Mandelbrot Metal, you’re capturing the precise

coordinates, magnification, and render settings of a fractal view — like a snapshot of infinity. With sharing in 1.1, you can now:

  • Export individual bookmarks or all bookmarks at once.
  • Send them to another device, back them up, or share your favorite deep zooms with friends.
  • Import shared bookmarks to instantly jump to another user’s exact location in the Mandelbrot set — no coordinates needed.

It’s an entirely new way to exchange discoveries and revisit each other’s most fascinating finds.

Palette Sharing & Curation

Color is central to how Mandelbrot Metal expresses fractal structure. Version 1.1 extends that creativity with palette sharing:

  • Export any palette you’ve imported or created.
  • Share it as a small .mmpalette file with other users.
  • Import palettes from others — or from your other devices — with a single tap.

You can share just one palette, or use the “Export All” option to back up your entire collection.

And yes — custom, photo-based gradients are fully supported. Your creative color work is now completely portable.

Unique Capability

While a few fractal apps support file-based sharing or public galleries, Mandelbrot Metal is the only app to offer seamless bookmark + palette export/import, cross-device syncing, and a built-in community portal — all under full user control.

Simple and Secure

Sharing is designed to be simple and local-first:

  • From Manage Bookmarks or Manage Palettes, swipe right on any item to reveal the Export button.
  • To import, just tap Import at the top of the sheet and select your file.

Everything stays private — nothing leaves your control unless you choose to share. There is no personal data involved, so security is not an issue.

The Road Ahead: Community Sharing Portal

Version 1.1 lays the foundation for something bigger: the upcoming Mandelbrot Metal Community Portal, a curated space for sharing and discovering user-generated content.

Soon you’ll be able to:

  • Browse and download shared bookmarks and palettes from other users as well as from us.
  • Upload your own sets for others to explore.
  • Follow featured fractal locations and trending palettes from the global Mandelbrot Metal community.

It’s the next step in turning Mandelbrot Metal from a personal exploration tool into a shared universe of fractal discovery.

What to Expect

The sharing update is available in version 1.1, now on the App Store for purchase, and as a free update for all existing users.

As always, no data leaves your device automatically — sharing is fully under your control. Again, no personal data is included in the export/import of bookmarks and palettes.

Stay tuned for the portal release announcement and preview coming soon.
